Process : Illustrations for One Potoroo

Each illustration tells a story and has a journey of creation. Here are some insights into the creation of a couple of the illustrations for One Potoroo - A Story of Survival now in bookstores. Written by Penny Jaye, illustrated by me and published by the CSIRO.

The next scene explores the first page that introduces us to the story. A lightning strike starts a fire that tears through the scrub.

In this scene we see the Gilbert’s Potoroo hiding behind a rock to escape the bushfire.

The last timelapse I’ll share is one that is much more joyful. It explores a scene of a much happier Gilbert’s Potoroo transported in a sack to be introduced to a new safe home.

The story was a beautiful one that touched my heart and gave me hope for the Gilbert’s Potoroo. If you’d like to read up on more about the world’s most endangered marsupial please find some links below.
