Sifting Sands / Hairy Marron
This is an original artwork of an Australian Starfish that is Critically Endangered as the "Hairy Marron" with the scientific name of Cherax tenuimanus.

Size - 40cm x 40cm x 2cm / 15.75" x 15.75" x 0.75"
This is one of two species of crayfish in the South West known as Marron. These are a deep blue colour and are the largest freshwater crayfish species in the world. They are most active a few hours after sunset, longer around a new moon when the water temperature warms up.
This was part of a solo exhibition in which I painted twenty portraits of twenty Australian native animals that are disappearing - a tiny selection of the 10,000+ species worldwide that are extinct or facing extinction. To add accuracy and relevancy you will find a guide on the right hand panel of each of these artworks. The line indicates the size of the animal and a circle with capital letters alongside it will state is classification categorised by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
The painting comes sealed and ready to hang with d-rings and wire.
